"American Pillar. R (Van Fleet, '02; int. Conrad & Jones, '08). (r. wichuraiana x r. setigera) x red Hybrid Perpetual. Single, open, carmine-pink, white eye, golden stamens; immense cluster on long, strong stem. Fr. red. Fol. leathery, glossy. Very vig. (15-20 ft.); abundant, non-recurrent bloom. (21) rb."

"When it comes to naming rose varieties whose blooms are as delicately beautiful, fragrant, and appealing, as are those of Setigera hybrids mentioned, great care should be used. Like the Indians who knew them in their wild state, the Feast, Van Fleet, Schoener, Hansen, and Horvath wild-rose crosses are usually hardy. They have foliage that is resistant to black-spot and mildew, and they live over winter exposed to low temperatures."
